What We Do
“They were hungry and thirsty, their souls fainted in them. Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble, and He delivered them out of their distresses.”
~ Psalm 107
We help homeless mothers, children, and families rebuild their confidence and their lives! In addition to distributing your donations of food, clothing, toiletries, and more to the homeless and “almost-homeless,” we provide temporary apartment accommodations, motel vouchers, and permanent home placement to as many of our clients as we can! We do NOT provide short-term shelter services of our own.
Family Haven: “A Home to Begin Anew”

Through vouchers, transitional living at our Haven Apartments, and permanent housing at our Haven Homes, we’re doing our best to keep families healthy, warm, and off of the streets.
Typically, families begin at the voucher level and work their way into our transitional living program, then move on to permanent housing.
You can make a wonderful difference by donating furniture and other household items to our program! We need large and small household appliances, household items such as linens and towels, and more! Learn more about our donation needs on our “How You Can Help” page.
Tending the Sheep
In addition, we offer Bible studies and personal counseling to the homeless and recovering homeless. Some recovering families transition into other local church memberships; others attend both local churches and Downtown Ministries’ meetings. THIS IS A PRIORITY! What would it gain a father, mother, or child to receive a meal, suit of clothes, or a home, but lose his or her own soul? In our program, our children study together, our families worship together, and our parents are encouraged to meet for Bible study classes.
Mobile Chapel
We have a bus that we use for meetings at various motel locations around Sacramento County. Homeless families sit inside to sing, hear the Gospel, and receive gifts of food, clothes, toiletries, and holiday gift packages. Our regulars call it “the bus from heaven.”
Special Events & Programs
Holidays and camp days are wonderful opportunities to supply more than the basics! Larger food baskets and gifts add to the celebrations. On holidays of faith, such as Christmas and Easter, hearts seem to be open wider than ever to the Gospel.
During summer months, we hold a day camp program for school-aged children. Camp is centered around a V.B.S. theme with fun activities, field trips, food, prizes, backpacks, and school supplies for the upcoming school year.
